When chairing timed talks, I use a countdown presentation in powerpoint. I find this very helpful as chair and to speakers, if pointed at them in slideshow mode. I got this from Igor Markov, who got it from somebody else, but unlike an urban legend the thing really exists.
Judith Underwood's PhD thesis was on extracting computational content from classical
proofs. She is also my wife.
